I am a Primary School teacher, currently working in Year 3 and about to complete my NQT year (which has flown by and been absolutely brilliant!) following completion of my PGCE at the University of Cambridge. As this is my first year of teaching, the majority of my resources are aimed at Year 3 students though I have a number of children with SEN so activities are differentiated many ways. Usually they follow a 'mild, medium, spicy' format with further differentiation for additional needs.

Different types of conjunctions - Lower KS2

A notebook clearly explaining 4 different types of conjunctions: adding, opposing, time and cause and effect. This is complimented by a grid activity for children to sort examples from a word bank in to. For LA children there are some sentences with conjunctions missing and they must choose which conjunction fits best. Also provided: conjunction word bank like a jigsaw because conjunctions 'join' clauses together.

A notebook giving a clear explanation and examples of statement, question, command and exclamation and opportunity to practice writing them. The document with lists of sentences was used in a group sorting activity where they sorted them in to the 4 groups. Also included is an individual task differentiated 3 ways: mild = ticking the sentence type, medium = colour coding the sentences and spicy = writing examples of each.

Sentences for pupils to sort in to two piles (past and present) followed by mild and medium differentiated activities (mild = ticking past or present and identifying the verb. medium = re-writing the sentence in the other tense). The spicy alternative was to write any sentence and then write it in the other tense.

Homophone helpsheets with fun tricks for remembering!

Learning to spell homophones is not just about knowing when to use which word, it is about being able to use the letters in the word to help you choose which word it should be. I have made simple, but clear and consistent, posters/help sheets which provide fun ways to help you remember homophones (written in black). For each one I have also given a sentence using that homophone correctly (written in red). 26 Homophones included: all the ones mentioned on Year 3/4 curriculum. Plus a few additional ones e.g. four and for. 6 near homophones included: any from the 3/4 curriculum and others that I found needed teaching due to regional accents e.g. are and our, won and one! I hope you find these useful.

There are additional worksheets differentiated two ways and a spicy challenge for high ability children.
